Dan's Construction and Repair Blog

Hello! My name is Dan and this is my construction and repair blog. I don't work in the industry myself, I have recently used a lot of different contractors during the construction of my home. Construction contractors used machinery to dig and lay the foundations for my home before the walls and trusses where installed. A roofing company installed a metal roof and contractors installed plumbing and electrical utilities. I was very impressed with the results and I learnt lots of cool things during the completion of this project. This blog contains information which will be useful to other people who plan to work with construction contractors.

Top Signs It May Be Time to Repair or Replace Your Security Shutters

Security shutters by themselves or in combination with an assembly of bars or grills can help to protect your property from intrusion. Most burglars and intruders do, after all, use the windows to gain unauthorised entry into homes and businesses.

To fully enjoy the protection that comes with having security shutters installed on your windows, they must be in top shape. This means taking care of repairs and replacing the shutters as need be on time. To be able to do so, here is a look at some of the signs of trouble you should be on the lookout for.

Difficult Operation

Whether manual or automated, the operation of your security shutters should be easy and seamless. If, on the other hand, you notice that the shutters have become increasingly difficult to open or close, then you should waste no time letting a professional have a look.

Difficulty in operation may present as the shutters becoming jammed or sticky. They may also only shut or open halfway before getting stuck. In other cases, they may fail to completely shut or open. Whichever the case, you should be prepared for repairs or replacement.

Noisy Operation

Noisy operation tends to become a problem with security shutters, particularly with the motorised kind, when different parts of the mechanism are loose or misaligned. Similarly, lack of sufficient lubrication in moving parts of the mechanism such as wheels and gears can also lead to noisy operation.

Security shutters normally run noiselessly. It is, therefore, not easy to miss the noises when your shutters begin producing them. As you will notice, the noise will only continue to progress with time, and that is the more reason why you should act as soon as possible after noticing noisy operation.

Structural Damage

Be it from multiple attempted break-ins, the impact of heavy debris falling on the shutters or whatever else, you need to repair or replace your security shutters if there is any visible structural damage. It is therefore essential to regularly inspect your shutters and check for signs of damage.

Such damage will only impair your shutters' strength, compromising their ability to perform their function well. The damage also makes operating them difficult, and you will have problems raising and lowering the shutters.

Timely repairs or replacement will ensure that you keep enjoying the protection that your security shutters provide. In most cases, you can avoid having to replace the shutters by repairing them as soon as possible. Contact a company that sells shutters to learn more.
