Dan's Construction and Repair Blog

Hello! My name is Dan and this is my construction and repair blog. I don't work in the industry myself, I have recently used a lot of different contractors during the construction of my home. Construction contractors used machinery to dig and lay the foundations for my home before the walls and trusses where installed. A roofing company installed a metal roof and contractors installed plumbing and electrical utilities. I was very impressed with the results and I learnt lots of cool things during the completion of this project. This blog contains information which will be useful to other people who plan to work with construction contractors.

Is Your Compressor's Safety Valve Damaged? Consider the Following When Buying a Safety Valve

Do you use a compressor at your place of work? Then you are well aware that highly pressurized containers can be a safety hazard when they are not correctly handled. This is due to the pressure difference on the outside and inside of the compressor, which makes the air expand on one side. When the difference in pressure is not well controlled, the compressor will automatically explode. It is because of this that one needs to choose the right pressure reducing valve, such as the Bailey safety valve, for the compressor. This article will look at some of the essential factors you need to consider when buying the safety valves.

Temperature

Pressure and fluid temperature are two of the most vital factors you need to consider when shopping for a relief valve. The material used in making the relief valve should be capable of handling the temperature involved. For instance, when the valve needs to help in controlling high-temperature fluids flow, the valve needs to be of steel material. This is because steel is capable of operating at high temperatures without failing. When you are dealing with the gases and fluids of low temperature, the relief valves are usually made of bronze.

Back Pressure

The compressor's back pressure is created by the pressure existing in the discharge system. With the back pressure occurring on the safety valve outlet side, it meets the set pressure of the valve, making it open and close repeatedly. If you let the action to go on for long, the valve will quickly wear off. You can solve this problem by purchasing safety valves whose back pressure is either equal to or slightly higher than the pressure which has been set. In case the compressor is facing constant back pressure, the relief valve that is pilot operated will help in fixing the issue.

Required Capacity

Despite safety valves being meant for relieving excess pressure, they still do have limits. There are also different relief brands which do have different limits. Hence, it is advisable for one to purchase a pressure valve of the right capacity. This is important just in case the pressure does exceed the size of the relief valve, which can lead to damage to the equipment or accidents.

It is advisable for any potential buyer to have a look at the different types of safety valves available before settling on the right option.
