Dan's Construction and Repair Blog

Hello! My name is Dan and this is my construction and repair blog. I don't work in the industry myself, I have recently used a lot of different contractors during the construction of my home. Construction contractors used machinery to dig and lay the foundations for my home before the walls and trusses where installed. A roofing company installed a metal roof and contractors installed plumbing and electrical utilities. I was very impressed with the results and I learnt lots of cool things during the completion of this project. This blog contains information which will be useful to other people who plan to work with construction contractors.

3 Major Septic Tank Issues and How to Repair Them

A septic tank is a tank that is specially designed to decompose human waste and other domestic waste using bacteria. No one would be interested to know how their drainage system works as long they do not have any blocked drains. It is, however, important to have your septic tank checked regularly to ensure it is in good condition. For someone with no experience on septic tanks, it would be hard to figure out the origin of any problem whenever there is one. However, you do not want to need to dig up your tank for repairs. This would cost you a fortune, and it will take more time to repair it. Once you notice a slight problem, you should work on it before it gets worse. The following are some of the major septic tank issues that you should look out for and fix immediately.

Clogs

It is always advisable to have your septic tanks pumped out regularly. This is because solid waste accumulates on the tanks. You may experience slow drains in your sinks or have them blocked completely. Your toilets may also fail to flush waste, and this is not good for the health of your family. All these could be as a result of solid waste that has built up on the tanks. There are some factors you should consider before deciding how often the tanks should be pumped out. You should consider the number of your family members and how much waste drains into the tank. You should find out where the clogs could be once you experience a blockage. To avoid having these clogs all the time, you should avoid flushing some items down your toilet such as tampons or paper towels.

Tree Roots

Since waste water goes down the pipes into the septic tanks, the moist environment could attract the growth of tree roots through cracks. The tree roots can be big enough that they will block water from flowing freely. This could lead to slow drains and block your toilets. You can use an auger to clear the lines. However, an auger cannot offer you a long lasting solution. Therefore, you should get a drainage specialist to determine how far the roots have caused damage to your septic tanks and repair them.

A tank leak

If you notice that grass around your septic tank is greener and looks healthier than the vegetation around, it could mean that your tank is leaking. Therefore, you should have it fixed immediately before the problem gets worse.
